Duane Broeker Obituary

Duane Lee Broeker punched his bus ticket August 11th, 2023 at the age of 64 at the Broeker Beacon in Garland, Nebraska.

Born during the December 1958 snowstorm to Wallace and Ortha Broeker in Oxford, NE Duane grew up helping on the family farm. Duane graduated from Oxford high school in 1977. During his high school athletic career which included wrestling, football and track, Duane set a hurdle record that will never be broken. Attending first Doane College, Duane played football and was a member of the AO fraternity. He then continued his education and athletic career at Wesleyan University where he graduated with a degree in Business-Econ in 1982.

A mutual Emotional Rescue occurred August 1st, 1981 when Duane married Bonnie Svoboda. The couple had two children; Sarah in 1988 and Nathan in 1991. Duane painted, farmed and during the last 20 years ran his own construction and remodeling business, Broeker Home Repair.

Duane was very selfless and volunteered his time and talents to everything from his children’s sports, to community repair projects, and the Garland Volunteer Fire Department. Duane was the Chief Medical Capitan for the Garland Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was a certified instructor and coach for rifle shooting sports, sending several athletes to D1 shooting collegiate programs. Duane was an avid motorcycle rider, attending Sturgis over 20 times with his family. He had a love for spending time with family, drinks around a campfire, woodworking, Saints football, Twizzlers, Grit TV, pistachios on road trips to Alabama, canons, adding to his statue collection, and Clive Cussler books.

Duane is preceded in death by his father Wallace, mother Ortha, his nephews Scott Gabel and Craig Broeker, and his brother-in-law Leonard Stalliviere. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bonnie (Svoboda) Broeker and their children Sarah (husband James Hall), Nathan (wife Ashley), their grand-children, Rylee Hall, Bristol Broeker and Wyatt Hall and his siblings, Dana Tarr (husband Terry), Donald Broeker (wife Jan), Linda Stalliviere, and Wesley Broeker (wife Val) and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
